Is a shrimp feed storage system necessary when cultivating shrimp? This is a common question asked by Shooters.

Feed is one of the most important factors in shrimp farming, as well as one of the factors that requires the most capital in shrimp farming. However, if it is stored improperly, the quality of the feed made by shrimp can decrease and affect the growth of your shrimp culture.

That is why farmers need to know and apply proper management and storage of shrimp feed. The aim is to maintain the quality of the feed in order to remain good. So, how to store good and correct shrimp feed?

9 Methods for Storing Artificial Shrimp Feed

One important aspect of shrimp feed storage is time or shelf life. If the feed is stored for too long, the quality will decrease, and it may even be unfit for shrimp.

For details, here are the steps for good and correct shrimp feed storage:

  1. Use the FIFO technique (First In First Out) or first in first out. That is, the feed that is purchased/arrived first is the feed that is stocked first. In addition to controlling the entry and exit of feed, this is also done so that the quality of the feed is maintained.
  2. Separate the feed storage area from other ingredients/needs.
  3. Pay attention to the shape and type of container used for liquid feed, such as molasses. Do not let it leak or evaporate.
  4. Don't let it wear too longn in the open state.
  5. If the feed is stored in sacks, do not stack it too high so that the feed is not damaged.
  6. We recommend that the pile of feed does not directly touch the floor and walls. You can use a base in the form of a wooden pallet.
  7. Store feed in a feed room/warehouse that can protect it from heat/direct sunlight, dry conditions, and has good ventilation to maintain room humidity. In addition, feed should be stored at room temperature.
  8. Make sure the feed warehouse is free from possible contamination by bacteria, fungi or pests such as insects, rats, cockroaches, birds and other animals. This is done to avoid transmission of disease.
  9. Avoid hoarding / storing feed for too long. Existing/purchased feed should be used immediately. When stocks are low, you can order feed as needed.

Good shrimp feed storage must also be supported by proper feed management so that shrimp grow optimally, low aquaculture FCR, and pond water quality is maintained.
