How to Calculate Tilapia FCR for More Profitable Farming!

Schedule and Type of Feed for Tilapia Cultivation

For satisfactory tilapia yields, the most suitable feed for growing tilapia is manufactured feed in the form of pellets. The best feed protein content for rearing tilapia is 20-30%. 

The amount of feed that needs to be stocked every day is 3% of the total weight of tilapia. The total feed is divided to be stocked 2-3 times a day, namely in the morning (at 08.00), afternoon (12.00), and afternoon (16.00). 

To calculate the amount of feed needed, farmers need to do fish weight sampling every 2 weeks. The goal is that the amount of feed can be adjusted to the size of the fish, so that growth is more optimal. Here's how to calculate the tilapia feed needed!

Sampling shows that the average weight of fish is 100 gr. The number of fish in the pond/pond stocking density is 1,000 fish.

So, the feed needed every day is 3 kg. When divided into 3 feeding times, each father/mother spreading the feed requires about 1 kg of feed.

How to Calculate Tilapia FCR

Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) is the number of feed effectiveness when cultivating. FCR is used as a benchmark in order to optimize feed effectiveness and calculate the profit of fish farming after harvest. 

The best feed efficiency/FCR is closest to number 1. This means that the weight of the feed given is almost the same as the final weight of tilapia. 

There are 2 ways to calculate FCR, namely before and during harvest. Both can be calculated using the amount of feed that has been stocked and the weight of the harvested fish or sampling. 

Here's how to calculate the FCR of tilapia before harvest.

Example:

Sampling shows the average weight of fish is 300 grams per head. Stocking density of 1,000 heads. The amount of feed that has been given is 450 kg.

So, the temporary FCR for the cycle is 1.5.

However, the most accurate calculation of FCR for tilapia is by using the amount of the harvest. Here's how to calculate the FCR of tilapia after harvest.

Example:

Yields reached 1,000 tonnes. Feed spent as much as 1,500 kg.

So, the FCR of the cycle is 1.3.

It should be noted that the most accurate calculation of FCR is using crop yields. The closer to harvest, the more accurate and real the FCR calculation results will be. 

After getting the FCR number for tilapia, you can see how effective the feed is stocked, then adjust the schedule/amount so that the FCR value can be reduced/reduced.
