Farmers can reduce production costs by making their own natural vannamei shrimp feed, but still maintaining their nutritional content. Shrimp nutritional needs must be met for the survival of shrimp.
Quality feed contains carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins as a source of energy for shrimp to grow and reproduce. Here's how to make vannamei shrimp natural feed. Check out the explanation!
Types of Natural Vaname Shrimp Feed
To meet the nutritional needs of shrimp, it is very important for you to know the right composition of feed ingredients for the growth of vannamei shrimp during the cultivation process. Natural feed raw materials for vannamei shrimp must have beneficial ingredients such as water, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, nitrogen-free extracts (digestible carbohydrates), ash content, vitamins and minerals, available phosphorus, amino acid levels, and levels of unsaturated fatty acids. The raw material content is found in two types of vannamei shrimp natural feed, namely vegetable and animal feed.
The percentage inclusion of each feed ingredient is determined by factors such as the proximate composition of the feed ingredient, amino acid profile, shrimp nutritional requirements, ingredient cost, availability of each ingredient, feed digestibility, and processing characteristics. The main raw material components commonly used by vaname shrimp farmers are wheat flour, soybean meal, fish meal and yeast.
These ingredients provide protein, amino acids and energy in the feed. Protein supplements are sourced from animal, yeast, or vegetable protein. Several raw materials that have been proven to be excellent main protein sources for shrimp feed are squid, soybean meal, shrimp meal, fish meal, krill, and shellfish waste.
How to Make Vaname Shrimp Natural Feed
Natural food for shrimp is in the form of microorganisms in the water, usually in the form of phytoplankton and zooplankton. As for how to grow natural food in ponds as follows:
1. Sprinkle Dolomite Lime or Kaptan (Agricultural Lime)
Lime will stimulate the growth of plankton in ponds by sprinkling lime during pond preparation.
2. Adding Nitrifying Bacteria
Nitrifying bacteria are scattered sufficiently into the pond. The use of bacteria does not need much because it will cause the growth rate of plankton to be fast and the oxygen levels in the pond to be low.
3. Add Water
Do a water change in the morning up to 5 cm from the original height. This is because water contains many minerals which are good for plankton growth
4. Apply Fermentation Results
Farmers can use ingredients such as bran or bran and molasses or molasses
How to Make Vaname Shrimp Artificial Feed
1. Selection of Raw Materials
Natural feed for vannamei shrimp must have good protein content. Raw materials containing protein for vannamei shrimp natural feed are divided into two, namely containing animal and vegetable protein. Here are some natural animal and vegetable feed ingredients that can be used:
Fish flour
Fishmeal is a rich source of high-quality protein, has a relatively high energy content, and is rich in essential minerals such as phosphorus, B vitamins and essential fatty acids. The function of fish meal in shrimp natural feed is to provide better growth in all tested shrimp species.
Fish oil
Fish and squid oil provide essential fatty acids needed by shrimp.
Wheat
This material is used as a binding source of carbohydrates in shrimp natural feed. Ideally, oats should have a high gluten content. Wet gluten index is low (23-28%) compared to the need for natural shrimp feed pellets (32-35%). Another function of wheat is as another binder to achieve the required pellet water stability.
Soybean meal
One of the raw materials that contain vegetable protein is soybean meal. Soybean meal has one of the best essential amino acid profiles of any protein-rich plant feed ingredient. Soybean meal with husk (44% crude protein) and soybean meal without skin (48% crude protein) are available in bulk. This product is used in shrimp feed. Crayfish seem to be able to digest soybean meal very efficiently.
2. Formation of Pellets
Formation of pellets can be done using a tool extruder. This tool was specially created to make pellets, so that the drying process is easier. If you don't have this tool, you can outsmart it by making pellets using your bare hands. Make sure the pellet clumps have an even texture and don't have any more lumps.
3. Pellet Drying
The last step that you have to do is dry the pellets. You can use sunlight as a means to dry the pellets. Drying is useful so that vaname shrimp feed can last longer. After the pellets have dried, you should store them in an airtight plastic bag so that the feed lasts longer and is maximized.
